Growth achieved once again by Indian food & beverage trade fair

November 2008

Mumbai: 5,258 trade visitors ensure high levels of ordering activity at Annapoorna – World of Food India

Successful trade fair proves value of the event’s concept and location in Mumbai

Final report: Annapoorna — World of Food India closed its doors after three intensive and very successful days. The trade fair for the food and beverage industry in Mumbai succeeded in confirming its position as an important trade and information platform for the fast growing food industry in India. The organisers — Koelnmesse GmbH and the FICCI Federation of India Chambers of Commerce and Industry — registered 5,258 trade visitors. The visitors came mainly from India, in addition to some from neighbouring countries. The visitors were provided with an extensive overview of products and services for and from the food and beverage industry by 200 suppliers from 15 countries.

Compared to the last event, this year's Annapoorna — World of Food India grew in terms of occupied exhibition space and the number of suppliers. These positive factors were clearly felt by the visitors and were reflected by the high levels of ordering activity. Visitor numbers grew by approximately 12 per cent. As a pure B2B fair, Annapoorna — World of Food India offers the committed Indian food industry a unique platform for information, contacts and ordering.

In addition to the 85 Indian companies, 115 foreign companies were also represented in Mumbai – a share of 58 per cent. Joining the national pavilions from Germany, Italy, Korea, Japan, Taiwan and Thailand, Malaysia also featured joint presentations for the first time in Mumbai. The Indian states of Kerala and Gujarat also had pavilions for the first time at the event. The product spectrum at the fair ranged from basic foodstuffs, processed food and beverages, convenience products, meat and fish to frozen food products, dairy products, baked goods, fruit and vegetables and lots more.

The fair appealed to buyers from all sales channels because of the broad range of products and services it offered. This included the wholesale and retail trade, importers and trading companies, but also catering companies, hotels, resorts, restaurants and food service suppliers.

The Procurement Center, where expert buyers were able to exclusively present themselves, made intensive talks between suppliers and buyers possible. Companies including the supermarket chains Reliance, Spencer’s and Foodworld, cash & carry markets such as Carrefour and Metro Cash & Carry, and the hypermarket HyperCity used the event for brisk business. Shafeer Yousuf, Business Development Manager from Five Group Trading Doha in Qatar used the Procurement Center for the second time and was once more enthusiastic: “An ideal spot for the best buys and a global food market with outstanding professionalism and hospitality:

Annapoorna – World of Food India proved it plays a key role for the food industry in the region.” Annapoorna – World of Food India took place in Hall 5 of the Bombay Exhibition Center and was open to trade visitors only.
